Nordstrom Return Policy: Is It Truly Limitless?

Author - Heather Rubacky

Absolutely adore that upscale vibe of shopping at Nordstrom for all your high-end apparel, accessories, footwear and beauty needs? Absolutely discouraged when your purchases don’t quite fit the bill? Not to worry. Nordstrom prides itself on being a leading specialty fashion retailer focused on creating customer loyalty and providing a stellar shopping experience. This philosophy even applies after the sale with a gracious and quite liberal return policy. Some agree it’s one of the best policies around. To enhance your shopping experience further, be sure to check for any available Nordstrom promo codes before making a purchase to enjoy additional savings.

At Nordstrom, all returns are treated on a case-by-case basis erring on the side of fairness. There are few restrictions in the official policy and more than one way to make returns, ensuring an effortless process and satisfied shoppers. Read on for all things related to returning a purchase from Nordstrom and finally answer the question, is the Nordstrom return policy truly limitless?

Nordstrom, Inc., currently operates Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack along with the online counterparts to each. The bright sprawling department stores that we know as Nordstrom are where the full-line retailer sells luxury fashion brands while providing other unique services to ensure return customers. From gift wrapping to style help, Nordstrom aims to set itself apart from other high-end retailers.

The company caters to the more savvy fashionista at its off-price division, Nordstrom Rack. The Rack stores tend to be a little less customer obsessed and a lot less enchanting while offering everyday savings of up to 70% off the same notable brands.

Even though the two chains operate under the same corporate umbrella, there are differences in the return policies, one of them being more lenient than the other. Let’s dive into the ins and outs of each policy and how to go about making a return.

The Nordstrom Return Policy (or lack thereof) indicates that each return is evaluated on an individual basis with a vow to treat customers fairly and reasonably, leaving the policy somewhat open ended. Here’s what we know for sure:

  • Your original receipt is helpful but not necessary.
  • No time limits or constraints exist for returns.
  • Returns are free, even by mail.
  • There are no restocking fees.
  • Certain items are subject to specific rules as noted below.

Though the policy seems all encompassing, some items at Nordstrom follow stricter guidelines for returns.

  • Special occasion dresses and designer items need to be returned in the same condition as when you purchased them. All packaging should be included (hangers, dust bags, etc.) and tags should be attached.
  • If a garment or item has a tag that states “garment cannot be returned if this tag is removed,” it will only be accepted for return with those original tags still attached.
  • Gift cards are not returnable.
  • Fine jewelry requires additional paperwork and insurance to return by mail or can be returned to Nordstrom store locations that have a fine jewelry department.
  • Balsam Hill, Casper Bed and Westin Heavenly Bed branded items will require a phone call to initiate a return. Those phone numbers are available within the official return policy.

Nordstrom aims to please by offering the best in customer service which includes three simple ways to accomplish a return.

In-Store Returns

Whether your original purchase was made in store or online you can bring your unwanted merchandise back to any Nordstrom brick-and-mortar location with (or without) a receipt along with your original form of payment. All employees are given autonomy to make decisions regarding returns so you can feel confident visiting any sales register. Refunds can be expected in 3-5 business days.

Returns can also be made to Nordstrom Rack stores as well as Nordstrom Local locations, the latter being convenient neighborhood service hubs that are currently only operating in New York and California.

Returns by Mail

Once the return process is initiated online, Nordstrom will send you a prepaid shipping label via email. Simply package your return with the label provided and send it off. If you are unable to print the label, head to an eligible USPS or FedEx location with your QR code and let them do the printing for you. Nordstrom is one of a handful of retailers that are still offering free returns by mail. Returns are processed in 8-12 business days and refunds can be expected 3-5 business days after processing.

Curbside Returns

Nordstrom also offers a curbside return option for your convenience. Again, you’ll need to initiate the return process online and then head to a store location to drop off in the designated return area.

It stands to reason that since we shop and save differently at Nordstrom Rack locations, there will be a different set of rules to follow when making returns. The biggest difference being that returns to Nordstrom Rack must fall within 30 days of your in-store purchase or 40 days of your online purchase for a full refund.

Other differences include:

  • Items must not be worn, altered or damaged and should be returned with original tags and packaging.
  • Garments, footwear and accessories labeled Final Sale or Non-Returnable will not be accepted.
  • All beauty items are final sale and cannot be returned.

In-store or online purchases from Nordstrom Rack can be returned directly to your nearest store location or by mail. Making a return in store will require a receipt plus your original form of payment. Don’t forget the time frame imposed on returns here and be aware that if you choose to ship items back, your refund will be reduced by a $9.95 return shipping charge.

Yes, most merchandise from Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com can now be returned at Nordstrom Rack locations. Fine jewelry and designer items are excluded from this option, however.

Conversely, Nordstrom Rack returns can be returned to Nordstrom locations but not using the curbside method.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use expired coupon codes?

Expired codes typically won't work, but occasionally retailers extend expiration dates. It's worth trying an expired code if it's only slightly past the date. For guaranteed savings, use active codes from goldendealhub.ink.

Can I use coupons on already discounted items?

Many retailers allow stacking coupons on sale items, but some exclude already-discounted products. Check the coupon terms on goldendealhub.ink. During major sales, retailers may release special codes that work with discounted prices.

Are there student discounts available?

Many retailers offer student discounts through programs like Student Beans or UNiDAYS. These are separate from regular coupon codes. Check goldendealhub.ink for student-specific deals, or verify student discount eligibility directly with retailers.

Are the coupon codes verified before being posted?

Yes, we verify codes whenever possible before listing them. However, codes can expire quickly, so we recommend checking the retailer's website directly if a code doesn't work. We also provide multiple code options for each store to increase your chances of success.
